About the Assistant Chief – Assistant Chief David Perkins has been in law enforcement since 1987 when he began his career at the age of 18. Since then he has worked in both large and small city and county agencies. He comes to the Aransas Pass Police Department after serving the citizens and the City of Portland in the capacity of detective corporal. Assistant Chief Perkins has also worked locally with the Ingleside Police Department and the Port Aransas Police Department (where he grew up and started his career). Assistant Chief Perkins also proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a security policeman and was discharged honorably after his military obligation was completed.
Assistant Chief Perkins graduated from both the Del Mar Police Academy as well as the Houston Police Department Academy and currently holds both a master peace officer license as well as a certification as a law enforcement instructor, both issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Assistant Chief Perkins currently holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Police Science and is continuing his education to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Assistant Chief Perkins’ law enforcement experiences include assignments in the patrol division, criminal investigations division, a street crimes unit, and a gang task force. He has held the rank of detective corporal (Portland Police Department) patrol sergeant (Ingleside Police Department), and detective sergeant in command of the criminal investigations division (Ingleside Police Department). He also was assigned to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations with assignments to a counter espionage surveillance team and narcotics task force. Assistant Chief Perkins is married to Rhiannon Perkins, who is a police officer with the Rockport Police Department and together they are raising four children.
