Isaac Leal is the Assistant Chief for the Aransas Pass Police Department and has been in Law Enforcement since 1998. He has worked in several aspects of Law Enforcement ranging from Dispatch, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Gangs, and Narcotics.
Assistant Chief Leal was originally from the Houston area. He attended Houston Community College Police Academy, where he was both the Vice President and Physical Training Leader of his academy class. He also received honors recognition from Houston Community College for having a high GPA while attending the Police Academy. After graduating from the Police Academy Assistant Chief Leal was hired by Houston Community College and worked at the Police Academy as an instructors assistant and was responsible for recruiting.
Assistant Chief Leal left the Houston area in 2006 when he was hired by the 36th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in San Patricio County, Texas as a Violent Crimes Investigator. The 36th Judicial District covers two counties San Patricio and Aransas. While work for the District Attorney’s Office Assistant Chief Leal was responsible for conducting investigations involving gang members, narcotics, violent crimes, and crimes against children.
Assistant Chief Leal also established the first local gang database for the 36th Judicial District and is currently recognized as an expert witness in reference to gangs. As a result of Assistant Chief Leal’s testimony in court, the gang members he has testified against have received longer sentences. Assistant Chief Leal has also taught Police Officers and Attorneys from all over Texas the proper techniques to identify and investigate gang members.
Assistant Chief Leal also assisted local agencies in the 36th Judicial District with major criminal investigations, child sex crimes, homicides, and crimes committed by Police Officers. Assistant Chief Leal has also worked with the Texas Rangers and several Federal Agencies like the FBI, ICE, DEA, Secret Service and the U.S. Marshals.
After leaving the 36th Judicial District Attorney’s Office due to grant funding issues, Assistant Chief Leal worked for the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Department as an undercover narcotics investigator. During his time as a narcotics investigator Assistant Chief Leal executed several search warrants in Aransas Pass, Portland, Taft, and Mathis. He made several arrest for both the possession and distribution of illegal narcotics.
