Assistant Chief of Police- David Wood began his law enforcement career in 1992. Before joining the Aransas Pass Police Department as a Patrol Captain in 2015, he served with one other municipal police agency as well as a sheriff’s office.
He began his career in law enforcement by attending the San Antonio College Law Enforcement Academy in 1991.
His first law enforcement position began with the Taft Police Department in 1992. During his fifteen years with the Taft Police Department, he served for four years as a patrol officer before promoting to Sergeant. After serving in that capacity for six years, he was hired as Chief of Police and served in that position for another five years.

Assistant Chief Wood also served for five years with the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy, Patrol Corporal, and Investigator Sergeant. Other duties and assignments included Tactical Response Team member, Armorer, and firearm instructor/range master.
During his tenure in law enforcement, Assistant Chief Wood’s duties have included a strong focus on leadership and supervision in all aspects of patrol, investigations, administration, and training. Assistant Chief Wood has earned several certifications with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, including Master Peace Officer, Instructor, Firearm Instructor, Crime Prevention Inspector, Mental Health Peace Officer, and Special Investigator.
