Lawler surrendered to law enforcement in San Patricio County. He has been booked into the San Patricio County jail.
*** END OF UPDATE ***
You may recall the brutal assault Video that made its rounds online a few weeks back. The video shows Jacob Lawler AGE 23 brutally assaulting his girlfriend on a second-story patio. At one point, he dangles her over the banister before dragging her back down the stairs.
Since that event, police continue to search for Lawler to arrest him for assault.
On Tuesday, 07/16/2019, APPD detectives visited with the District Attorney of San Patricio County, Sam Smith. DA Smith after reviewing the case and video evidence decided the assault charge against Lawler was inadequate. DA Smith instructed investigators to proceed with a felony attempted murder charge against him.
As a result, detectives secured a 2nd-degree felony warrant against Lawler for attempted murder. Detectives have determined that Lawler either fled the area or is hiding with close associates. The US Marshals Office is now assisting APPD.
It is important to note that hindering the apprehension of a fugitive is a felony. Detectives intend on filing charges against those found doing so.
