Lifesavers Recognized and Awarded – During the Monday evening council meeting this week, Sergeant Travis Baker and Officer David Piper were recognized for saving the life of a 77 YOA resident. Also included were Firefighters Captain Juan Cruz, Firefighter Matt Willhelm, and Firefighter Kade Norman. Anytime an officer or firefighter saves the life of another, he or she receives formal recognition and is awarded the Law Enforcement/Public Safety Lifesaving Medal. The details surrounding this event are as follows:
This Recognition is hereby given to Sergeant Travis Baker and Officer David Piper for the outstanding way you performed your duties on May 9, 2019, when you responded to a residence in Aransas Pass, Texas for a 77 years of age male who was not breathing.
Upon arrival, you encountered an elderly male in a chair. You and the assisting firefighters immediately checked for a pulse and began administering lifesaving measures. Though the male had no pulse and the AED advised not to shock, you continued administering CPR and rescue breathing for the male.
Tri-County EMS staff stated it wasn’t until on the way to the hospital that the male’s pulse returned. The paramedic attributed your efforts to successfully saving the elderly male’s life. He said your efforts, “most definitely helped save his life!”
Today, the Aransas Pass Police Department takes great pride in awarding you with the Lifesaving award. Your actions May 9th have been directly attributed to saving a life. Your performance during this event epitomizes our core values of honor, commitment, wisdom, and compassion, and the true meaning of public service. Thank you!
Today, the elderly male has returned to living on his own without medical lifesaving equipment and has began speaking again. As a result of your training, experience, and devotion to public service in combination with your deliberate and precise response during this event, this elderly male has been afforded more quality time to have with his loved ones and friends.
Awarded this the 20th day of May 2019.
